CHARACTER INFO
Character: Monkey D. Luffy
Canon: One Piece (Live Action), post-Season 1
Age: 17
Background Information: I am Monkey D. Luffy. And I'm gonna be King of the Pirates.
Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
Luffy is an optimist, cheerful, and friendly young man who is always willing to make friends with strangers. So long as someone isn't trying to kill him, he'll befriend someone - and even then, if he sees someone as a friend who then becomes an "enemy", Luffy will still encourage them to follow their dream. He always believes that things will work out, and then he has the drive and determination to follow up on that. It takes a lot to wipe the smile from Luffy's face and he enjoys the simple things in life like good food, having his crew, and being out on the open sea.
He often believes that everything will work out in the end, and it has so far. While some of it is definitely luck, Luffy isn't afraid to put in the work to get what he wants. Sometimes he may go about it in his naive fashion, but Luffy does have times when he's very serious about something. This usually involves his crew and the people he cares about.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
He has a dream: to find the One Piece and become King of the Pirates. Luffy has wanted to become a pirate ever since he was a young kid who admired Shanks. There's a lot he's willing to do in order to accomplish that dream, though Luffy still strives to be a good pirate who doesn't harm innocent people. He's even willing to defy his own Marine grandfather to follow his dream, first running away from and then confronting him head-on.
Luffy also encourages others to find their dream, even if it puts them at odds with him down the line. He's actually a pretty good judge of someone's character, finding those who actually have similar ideals to accomplishing their dreams and making them part of his crew. Nor would he discourage anyone from walking a path to their dream, even if it means they go their separate ways. Luffy is very loyal to the people he cares about, to the point that he was very upset when Zoro was seriously injured and it seemed as though Nami had betrayed them. Often times, he doesn't know how to handle those kinds of situations and needs time to process it or a little kick in the ass.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Luffy is impulsive, reckless, naive, and still getting his sea legs when it comes to being the captain. He often approaches things without much of a plan and leaves things up to the last minute. Sometimes, when he steps aside to allow someone to follow their dream, they end up seriously hurt. He doesn't yet know how to pull someone back to approach something more cautiously because he's never had to do it himself. Luffy has always bulldozed his way through any obstacle that stood in the way, but the great wide world is filled with people currently more powerful than them.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
- Luffy is a bottomless pit when it comes to food.
- He can eat massive amounts of poison and still be fine.
- Thanks to the Devil Fruit, he can't swim and sea water makes him essentially human again.
- Even though he's rubber, Luffy is weak to bladed attacks.
Abilities & Inventory:
Gum Gum Devil Fruit:
This is a special fruit that when eaten, turned Luffy's body into rubber. He can stretch, bend, inflate, bounce, and twist at will and is always active. Luffy has become mostly immune to blunt objects (including cannonballs), fall damage, heavy collisions, and general hazards that may be fatal to other individuals. Even Luffy's organs are made of rubber, which allowed him to eat a great deal of poison only to empty his stomach rather than die from it. He's also gained an inhuman strength that allowed him to rip a floor safe out of its place so he could steal a map inside. Later on, Luffy inflated his entire body to bounce a cannonball back at the ship who fired it.
There is a lot that the Live Action version hasn't covered yet in regards to Luffy's abilities, but I won't worry about those at this time.
- His clothing
- His straw hat

ARMADA SELECTION
Corsairs, Of course! Luffy has dreamed of being a pirate since childhood, but more than that, he's dreamed of becoming the King of Pirates. He might be one of the nicest pirates around, one who helps others in need and beats up the bad kind of pirates, but he longs for the freedom to chase his dream. It's something he encourages in all of the people he meets, even if it may make them enemies down the line. But he's also not afraid to steal things when necessary, or set prisoners free, or cause massive amounts of damage to property. So while pirates may call themselves by the Corsair title, Luffy would still want to be one.
